Hatchet 3 is the 2013 horror film of the Hatchet series. It follows the story of Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.



The main strength of the movie lies in the practical effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects in a lesser degree than others. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes in the movie.

The cast gives a strong performance and Kane Hodder standing out as the most terrifying villain. The dialogue is hilarious and cheeky that it could be like a classic 1980s horror film. Additionally, there are some really funny moments throughout that offer humor against the horror-inducing action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is so limited (reportedly $1 million), most locations in the film are reused (blog) locations from earlier films in the series. For instance the exact boathouse location was featured twice within the movie. Many of these locations feel like they've been reused from other films in this franchise. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the film appear familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior entries in this series--it offered lots of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from the actors.
